The Tennessee Three
The Tennessee Three
"The Tennessee Three" started out as "The Tennessee Two" in 1955 as a backing band for Johnny Cash. At that time, the band included Luther Perkins on guitar and Marshall Grant on Bass. In 1960, drummer W. S. Holland joined the group, and The Tennessee Three was a fact.
The Tennessee Three was the backing band for Johnny Cash for over 40 years, until 1996, when Johnny Cash "semi-retired" because of his health.
How it all started
Johnny Cash was introduced to Luther Perkins and Marshall Grant by his brother when he moved to Memphis.
